Why You Should Absolutely Do Engagements & Bridals
Congratulations! You’re getting married!!! You’re on the hunt for a great photographer & you’re willing to fork out your retirement savings on someone who will capture your wedding day perfectly, because those are the pictures you’re going to hang on your wall, right?! Actually… your wedding day photos are so special, don’t get me wrong! But the photos most people have on their wall are engagements or bridals, & there are a couple of reasons why! Let me explain!
First of all, if you’re going to hire the most expensive photographer you can find, you better make sure they include separate sessions other than the wedding day in there! I always include packages that have sessions outside of the wedding day. For one, the chaos of wedding day can make it hard to be authentic & relaxed in your photos! For two, wedding days aren’t always in the perfect setting or lighting for those dreamy, stop-time, drop-dead photos you’ve always dreamed of. Those candid wedding photos, you will cherish forever, but there is something special about being able to have a session with just you & your honey to really take in your love & experience one another’s company on a real & raw level. So that being said, hire someone who will give you multiple sessions in your wedding package, not just the wedding day!
Second of all, like I said, the wedding day will be beautifully decorated & you will share some incredible moments with friends, family, & your new spouse, & those moments will need to be captured so you can cherish them forever! But if you want photos to hang, I don’t think you will choose the photos of you smashing cake into your lover’s mouth (maybe you will, who knows!), or you hugging your aunt Becky, or you breaking it down on the dance floor with your bridesmaids! The photos you will want are intimate moments with your spouse! & while you will absolutely get photos like that on your wedding day, the setting around you might not be ideal to create that explosive magic picture you have always wanted.
That brings me to my third point. You’re going to want an incredible scenery for those wall-hanging pictures for a couple of reasons. 1. Duh. You’ll want some amazing photos in your house. 2. I personally like my photos to match the vibe of my house. I love farmhouse style homes. I love rustic, white, woodsy homes. That means for me personally I love the pop of greens & yellows in my photos hanging on my walls. For other people, they love the neutral home vibes, which would make pictures at the Bonneville Salt Flats a real winner for your home! When you to engagements or bridals, you get to choose the scenery that you’ll be staring at every day in your home!
Fourth, whether or not your wedding day is absolutely perfect, I will guarantee you won’t want to pass up intimate time with your honey! And let me tell you, there is something truly magical about sharing some incredible moments together in the most majestic places imaginable. Getting to share time together laughing, holding each other, & staring into each other’s eyes will be the best part of your engagements or bridals. I will stare at my engagements & bridals daily because it brings me back to those exact feelings. I remember what we said to each other when our photographer said to “whisper sweet nothings” in each other’s ear. I remember my fiancé turning around & seeing me in my dress for the first time. I remember running through the busy streets laughing. Every picture brings me back to such a sweet & simple moment. No chaos. No other people. Just me & my favorite person.
Have I convinced you yet? Okay good! But you guys, I said you should get engagements & bridals. That’s a big AND! How come?? Isn’t one session enough?!
Nope. Here’s why.
Your bridals will literally never go out of style. Those bad boys can hang on your walls until the day you die & they will always be timeless. You will never get sick of them! But engagements are also timeless because odds are in will just be you & your honey for a while after you’re married, & won’t you want some amazing eye-catching, love-infused pictures that you can use for every occasion? Christmas cards, the random daily instagram post, wall-hangings, YOUR WEDDING INVITATIONS, & just to look at forever. Engagements are some of my favorite photos to look at because it captures who we were at that stage of life. It shows us in our true & honest form, & created some casual, passionate moments between me & my spouse.
Everyone I’ve ever booked for weddings who also does engagements & bridals never regrets it. They post them all the time. They hang them in their home. They cherish them.
Every minute you can capture during this wonderful chapter of your life, absolutely do it. I don’t regret a single dollar or minute spent on engagements or bridals. I don’t think you will either.
