Indoor Shoots (& Why I Love Them)
Indoor shoots. You’ve probably heard of them. Those little studios you rent out by the hour, filled with white, textured walls, benches & chairs of every shape & size, plants in every corner, topped off with some cute basket & blankets. Why do these places even exist? What are they used for? Let me tell you!
I was never a huge fan of studios because obviously the outdoors is extremely beautiful & can’t be overlooked! If I were to take pictures, I thought I’d always take them outside where it is prettiest. There didn’t seem to be a point of indoor studios. In fact, I didn’t even use them the first year of my business. However, I had a mind change after I moved to Utah.
What changed my mind? THE WINTER. You guys, the winters are brutal, & it seems like life of an outdoor photographer can be put on pause when the leaves fall & the pretty snow melts. It’s still beautiful outside, don’t get me wrong, but it is way too cold to find a beautiful spot to take pictures at, let alone take them with a cute family who is freezing their booties off. So there I was, thinking about using a studio.
You guys. They are the best. Indoor shoots are MUSTS. Let me tell you why!
First of all, the wintertime can be so drab. You can rent those studios by the hour & get cozy with your spouse or baby, or just take some solo pictures for a mood boost! Seriously, nothing feels warmer in the wintertime than getting pampered with some adorable pictures in a warm & beautiful environment.
NEWBORNS. I do a lot of newborns in-home, but nothing beats the studio’s beautiful in every corner & perfect soft & subtle lighting for that newborn skin. Most studios also come with props, which means if you bring the outfits & baby, the studio can provide the rest, & you can rest assured every picture will come out perfect!
Milk Baths. Ever heard of them? They are my new favorite thing to photograph. Watching you little one who is discovering the world get to splash in milk to their hearts content is one of the most wholesome experiences in the world, & a studio is truly the best option for everyone!
Cake smashes! Most cake smashes you would think happen in-home, but trust me on this one, doing them before the birthday party in a studio will exceed all of your cuteness expectations. Baby can go crazy destroying that cake, & the studio makes for an easy clean-up & the ability to take photos without party guests, the laundry tucked behind the door, or unflattering light.
Are you a mom who just can’t get enough photos of their baby? We can do those at a studio too! With so many props to choose from, we can make 1 little room easily look like 7 different locations within an hour slot at a studio. Plus, those pictures will become prized possessions as your baby gets older.
Wintertime maternity sessions. If you are 35 weeks pregnant in the winter, I will bet you don’t want to get hair & makeup done, fit into a cute but uncomfortable dress, & pose in 30 degree weather worrying if you have a double chin for an hour. I have a solution! Indoor maternity sessions make for a warm & comfortable environment, flattering angles & colors, & less stress about weather or hiking to a pretty spot. It’s simple & seamless!
If you’ve ever wondered what a studio session is like, I highly recommend that you book a session at one! I promise it will be the most low-key photoshoot you will book. They have become some of my favorites, & once you try it out, you’ll understand why!
